This trip was created specifically for those in Costa Rica who need (or want) to leave the country for a few days and return in order to get their visa for another 90 days. For lodging you have multiple options, from home rentals to all inclusive resorts, to boutique hotels with a few rooms right on the sand. I have personally stayed at the Palace Resorts and Xamach Dos, between Tulum and the Quintana Roo National Park. I prefer places outside of the city of Cancun and the tourist centers of Playa del Carmen, but the whole stretch of coast is beautiful and where to stay depends on your tastes and budget. Luckily there is ample transportation options from the airport in Cancun to rest of the Yucatan Peninsula. You can reserve a private taxi, a shared shuttle bus, or rent a vehicle. Most tours will require a short road trip, so it just depends on how much you want to see while you are in Mexico. Sometimes it is nicer just to have a quiet few days on the coast’s sandy beaches.

If you do want to explore, there are ruins to discover (Tulum was like the beach town for the Mayan civilization), cenotes to swim in, rainforest hikes, swimming with whale sharks, and cultural exhibits.
